"Hope"

from $55.00

A November gale that wrecked nearly 30 ships in 1905 prompted this rugged landmark's construction. No longer in use as a navigational beacon, typically there are only two nights a year when the light of the Split Rock lighthouse is illuminated: July 31st, commemorating the lighthouses’ birthday; and November 10th, as a memorial commemorating the night in 1975 when the 728-foot freighter SS Edmund Fitzgerald sank in a fierce storm on Lake Superior, along with the loss of her 29-man crew.
